Hitherto

There is many a believer who forsakes God, but there is never a believer whom God forsakes.

We are at the beginning of a New Year and what a relief to be out of “that” year, yep, 2020. And as we stand, right here, right now. All we can say is, Hitherto the Lord has bought us! That’s it! ‘Faithful He has been’ is the most comforting statement we can say and the most assuring statement we can utter is, ‘Faithful He will be!’ The reason we are where we are is purely because of what God has done for us. When we look into our lives, unfaithfulness is in abundance but Thank God every single day that God is not like that. God does not decide to be faithful on a whim or because it seems like the right thing to do today. The first thing we need to understand in thinking about His faithfulness is that God is faithful to His name, His character and His Word. The faithfulness of God is deeply rooted and is an integral part of who He is.

The faithfulness of God is his trustworthiness, a commitment to keep his promises to his people. The picture that we have of God from the beginning is that he is not a cold, distant deity who demands that his needs to be met by his creatures, but a loving and relational God who creates all things out of his overflowing, dynamic love. How can a holy, righteous God remain faithful to his unrighteous and unfaithful people?

Mr. Keller wrote, “I know of nothing which so stimulates my faith in my Heavenly Father as to look back and reflect on His faithfulness to me in every crisis and every chilling circumstance of life. Over and over He has proved His care and concern for my welfare.  Again and again I have been conscious of the Good Shepherd’s guidance through dark days and deep valleys.” We have been through it all, the darkest valley, the scariest storms, the most chilling walk of life and we made it through and you know the reason why. Do we tend to take this faithfulness for granted? His faithfulness Becomes real to us, but only when things don’t go our way, when we’re fine, it’s like, we don’t really care for Him then, leave me alone God, I’ll call you when I need you again. Maybe, let 2021 be the year we change that attitude. Let 2021 be the year we start appreciating God’s faithfulness every waking moment. Let 2021 be the year we say with complete happiness and genuineness, ‘Hitherto, the Lord has bought us!’

In God’s faithfulness lies eternal security.
