“You can’t reach for anything new if your hands are still full of yesterday’s junk”
You know what’s the best thing about human beings? Their ability to never forget anything. Now, you know what’s the worst thing about human beings? Their ability to never forget anything. We as a species in general are similar to elephants, and no, not size wise but memory wise. We tend to remember everything and never leave behind anything from the past. To an extent, not forgetting the past is not a major problem, but when that past starts to define you, that’s when the problem begins. Our actions, our interactions, the way we deal with our life slowly starts changing. Now, when your life starts to get affected by your past, it’s time to seriously take the necessary actions. Many times we want to do something, but the past blocks your way, hits you in the face and drags you back to where you were and we give up most of the times. You can either stay where you are or you can channel that past, use it as a fuel to stand right back up, look the past in the eye and say, ‘Nope! Not today’! When we decide to ignore the past, then we will be able to move forward.
“The past was always there, lived inside of you, and it helped to make you who you were. But it had to be placed in perspective. The past could not dominate the future.”
It gets difficult but one way it gets easier is to see it from a different perspective. Change the way you look at it, and then there might be a change. See it as something that you’ve never looked it as. If you can get better through the bitterness, then you are in a place of closure and you can move forward. It’s ultimately in your hands, all depends on what you do with the power that you have. You either use it to break every chain that’s holding you back or you be bonded by it even stronger. This is not a one time event, it keeps happening. You forget the past and move on, but sometime later, it strikes back. And you are again back to square one. It’s a constant process, you keep fighting, because to live on, you have to fight on. And if it is easy, then it wouldn’t happen in your life. Life is difficult, learn to live with it. So the next time when it feels like, nostalgia is blocking you from moving forward, ignore it and move forward. Because it’s all in your head, and it’s the thought locked in your mind like a prison, and the best thing is, you hold the key to it.
Learn to get better through the bitterness.
