“Man’s true end is to glorify God and to enjoy him for ever”
2 words, ‘But. Why?’. Two words that’s powerful enough to make you question everything you did. These words in the pinnacle of your success hangover can be a real killjoy. You’ve done something truly amazing, something that you’ve wanted to do for a long time and then the day has arrived and you’ve put your heart and soul into, and you’ve done an amazing job, blew everyone’s expectations and did an amazing job, and you pat yourself and are proud and at this time, you hear the words, ‘Good job, But. Why?’ This can be an awkward question to ask at the time, you wouldn’t be so sure, what to answer. But it’s a question that should rule the heart of a true Christian. Not just after doing something, but before doing anything, ask yourself ‘But, why am I doing this’? If the answer is anything other than bringing glory to God, then it’s time to reconsider. It may seem a bit tough, but as everything, practice makes perfection.
“The person who fears God seeks to live all of life to the glory of God… All the activities of life should be pursued with the aim of glorifying God”
These words of Jerry Bridges should be of great importance to a true Christian. There’s a lot of ways we can glorify God, but let’s not be over ambitious and do everything in a day. It’s always great to start slow, do the little things. We have many reasons to give glory, it’s easy to glorify God when success comes your way. Look at the Oscars, most of them Thank God, followed by their parents and everyone in the production crew. But it’s not so easy to do the same, when you just lost the award. That’s where it gets difficult, if you are a person who succeeds all the time, and has never experienced anything else other than failure or negativity, then it’s fine and there is also a high chance that you don’t exist. Because we are human beings, sometimes you win, sometimes you don’t, it’s as simple as that. But whatever the circumstances are, glorify your creator in everything. In everything we do, be it small or big or just a regular everyday task, give glory to God, simply because he deserves it. The intensity of the task doesn’t matter, but your attitude towards it is what matters. As we give God the glory here on earth, pause for a moment and imagine seeing Jesus face to face, and await for the day we will see Him in all his majesty and splendor and then glorifying him face to face. Now that’s going to be a wonderful sight, so we prep ourselves for that by giving glory to Him for everything we do, here on earth.
If He doesn’t get the glory, then you didn’t get the whole point of Christian life!
