Where Are You Christmas? (S4 E7)

We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.

It is the season to pull your loved ones closer, joy and happiness is in the air and its smiles all around but if we take a closer look, its not all smiles around. There are a few frowns, a few sadness, a few emptiness. And our smiles won’t mean much if we can’t spread it with those without it. It’s easy to get so wrapped up in fixing your own life that you forget about helping others. And while it’s important to put yourself first sometimes, it’s even more important to help others whenever you can.

Being generous isn’t even always about altruism, it is sometimes simply about being human. The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well. I’m starting to think this world is just a place for us to learn that we need each other more than we want to admit and When a person is down in the world, an ounce of help is better than a pound of preaching. Maybe put down the microphone and reach your hand out and help somebody up. This season what is stopping us from spreading the cheer, not just by blaring up the music but by our actions. The next time you want to withhold your help, or your love, or your support for another for whatever the reason, ask yourself a simple question: do the reasons you want to withhold it reflect more on them or on you? And which reasons do you want defining you forevermore? Let our actions speak louder than our words and let it define who we are.

Lift up your eyes and see the good in the world, for we are people with an amazing capacity to do great good. And if only the minority choose to exercise this capacity to the smallest degree, oh how wondrous and sweet the deeds performed at but a few hands. We many times don’t understand the power we carry by doing an act of kindness. “The five minutes of kindness you showed him or her is going to help thousands of others. And that only takes into account the past day. Despair and pain were averted. Loss and tragedy thwarted. Do you think you haven’t struck a blow for the light, Warrior?”

Want to keep Christ in Christmas? Feed the hungry, clothe the naked, forgive the guilty, welcome the unwanted, care for the ill, love your enemies, and do unto others as you would have done unto you
