“To appreciate the beauty of a snowflake, it is necessary to stand out in the cold.”
We all want things, and we want it now. We want Christmas to come now, we want the good things now, nobody wants to wait and nobody has the patience to wait out the season to enjoy the good things that life has promised for us. We are all waiting, right now for Christmas but after that for the New Year, after that for the next celebration but if given a choice we would all skip the waiting. But the most important thing in life is the waiting. What we do when we wait makes up the majority of our life, what we do while waiting makes the essence of our existence.
Maya Angelou once wrote like this, “I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way they handle these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.” Maybe you are the person who don’t have the patience to untangle the lights, sort out that problem in life, mend that relationship in life, work a little more to make it right, maybe you are tired of it and don’t want to. But it’s the season of joy and also of waiting and while we wait, let’s untangle some things, let’s mend some relationships, let’s fix some things because after all, what is Christmas if not happiness and the absence of regret.
“The Christmas presents once opened are Not So Much Fun as they were while we were in the process of examining, lifting, shaking, thinking about, and opening them. Three hundred sixty-five days later, we try again and find that the same thing has happened. Each time the goal is reached, it becomes Not So Much Fun, and we’re off to reach the next one, then the next one, then the next. That doesn’t mean that the goals we have don’t count. They do, mostly because they cause us to go through the process and it’s the process that makes us wise, happy, or whatever. If we do things in the wrong sort of way, it makes us miserable, angry, confused, and things like that. The goal has to be right for us, and it has to be beneficial, in order to ensure a beneficial process. But aside from that, it’s really the process that’s important.”
Can we trust the process this season? Maybe you have been taken through difficult times and all the lights on the tree can’t make it brighter but trust the process. The sun will rise, the Christmas will come and until then tighten the sweaters, turn up the volume and hug your loved ones closer and trust the process.
