“Christmas is a piece of one’s home that one carries in one’s heart.”
As we await Christmas, we wait for it with those around us. And the warmth and goodness that family brings is something that cannot be compared with anything else. To know that whatever you go through, there are people around you to go through with you. To smile when you smile, to cry when you are, to be angry when you are and to ride this rollercoaster, we call life. And in a time like the one we are going through right now, most of us have to come to appreciate the love and warmth of family. It’s the thing that keeps us going, it is what helps us as we go, the ones we can always count on, the ones we can always fall back on. If that doesn’t, fill your heart with happiness, no season can do it. Now maybe you are somebody who doesn’t have a family to call your own, maybe the thought of your family brings out some other emotions that you may not be a fan of, but the truth is, Family isn’t always blood. It’s the people in your life who want you in theirs; the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones that would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what.
If you are surrounded by people who wish you well, who always want to see the good in you, then the season just adds on to the joy. Family is everything, so much so that sometimes it can be difficult to put into words just how much your loved ones mean to you. It doesn’t matter how big your house is; it mattered that there was love in it. “What is home? My favorite definition is “a safe place,” a place where one is free from attack, a place where one experiences secure relationships and affirmation. It’s a place where people share and understand each other. Its relationships are nurturing. The people in it do not need to be perfect; instead, they need to be honest, loving, supportive, recognizing a common humanity that makes all of us vulnerable.” You can kiss your family and friend’s good-bye and put miles between you, but at the same time you carry them with you in your heart, your mind, your stomach, because you do not just live in a world but a world lives in you.” Because the best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other.
Where Are You Christmas? We need family more than ever
