Unpopular Opinion (S1E6)

Now this pandemic has caused us a lot of trouble and our regular life has gone for a toss. Opinions are flying around and this is an unpopular one. This is not to offend any group or any person.

This is not the Worst Year

Never regret a day in your life: good days give happiness, bad days give experience, worst days give lessons, and best days give memories.

“This is the worst year ever” “Ugghh, I can’t take it anymore, this is the most difficult year” “I think this is the end of the world” “I think the Mayans were warning about this and 2012 was an autocorrect mistake” “#cancel2020 #2020cancellation”. These are all things just flooding our social media’s. People are frustrated, they are annoyed and some even had the nerve to demand cancellation of 2020, which logical thinking human beings are still trying to figure out how, time is not like that sitcom you don’t like that a few hashtags can cancel. Time doesn’t wait for none, it comes, it happens and it goes. And we have to go through it. We wish we didn’t, but unfortunately there are forces too powerful at play in the universe. Now since we have established that you can’t “cancel” this year, we ought to go through it. This year saw some good too, dread it, run from it, truth still remains the same.

“What if 2020 isn’t cancelled? What if 2020 is the year we’ve been waiting for? A year so uncomfortable, so painful, so scary, so raw, that it finally forces us to grow. A year that screams so loud, awakening us from our ignorant slumber. A year we finally accept the need for change. Declare change, work for change, become the change. A year we finally band together, instead of pushing back each other apart. What if this is the most important year after all?” The internet said it right, this is not our worst year.

Sure, the common sentiment is that of pain and regrets and frustration but this year taught us a lot of things and helped us grow as human beings. A nation stood up for a George Floyd, an uproar of revolution for black lives swept across one of the greatest nations, riots and protests sparked a fire in us that all of us matter, and no community is greater than the other. When brothers and sisters stood together, hand in hand, raising the voice of unity, saying to the world, we are all one and the only thing separating us amongst ourselves is the thoughts that we put in our minds. This year taught us that nothing can stop love, and a lot of people care about each other, care for you enough that they would give their money and time and even stand with you in the midst of that baton because this crisis taught us that we all need each other more than we thought.

The crisis awoke a sense of patriotism in us, the good kind. We learned that life is a bumpy road, but it is leading us somewhere and in that journey to that destination, we are all in it together you know it or not. We need each other to get there. We lost a lot of good lives to a virus, to injustice and they will forever remain in our hearts and minds, and we may curse the year, but this was also the year we saved many lives, the year we bought communities together, we locked up injustice, and at places lady liberty smiled. From the initiative of one single celebrity helping stranded people reach their homes to the march of thousands demanding justice, this year bought us all a lot together.

And let the unity we grew into continue in us as we go over the hurdles that life throws at us. Because this is not our worst year, maybe the next one might be tougher, the following maybe be harder but we can handle it! Together, we’ll get through it!
