Sincerely, A Broken Christian (S1E3)

“When we were born, nobody gave us a lesson on how to breathe, we just did. The same thing happens with love. Nobody tells you how to love, we just do.”

Now as Christians, one mistake that is made is to disregard the importance of culture. We enter into our own comfort zone of our Religious enterprises, Our family, our church and our limited social gatherings. And we make sure our lives surround around these areas, areas we are comfortable, areas that we are accepted, areas that are filled with people of similar ideologies and interests. People with whom you can spend time and not be bothered with what’s happening around us. We enter into a state of ‘convenient ignorance’. We conveniently ignore the problems that happen around us, we live in such a way that nothing gets to us, the bubble of comfort around us don’t pop. Now that’s the easy way out, but as Christians our life shouldn’t just be surrounded around those we are comfortable with. When Jesus left for heaven, he gave a speech as to what next? For the disciples and in one statement he says, go unto the ends of the earth. The ends of the earth is not a comfortable place, it’s not filled with people you may like, you are not going to be surrounded by a life that you are accustomed to, maybe you may face things that you don’t like, you may come across people who may seem different to you and your upbringing. But that’s the command! Now, if that is the command, how are we not able to fight for those around us?

“It is up to each one of us to immunize ourselves from any disabling bolts of anger and defend ourselves from the thunderstorms of hatred. No matter how maliciously anyone might act towards us, humankinds’ ability to express empathy, compassion, and mercy is the only life-sustaining panacea. Whenever we foster empathy and compassion and display mercy towards other people, we overcome the vilest actions and greatest atrocities committed by other persons. If we love everyone, we can never feel victimized or hate anyone. If we love ourselves, we will never act in a degrading manner.” Written in Dead Toad Scrolls.

The ends of the world is not our enemy, the ends of the world is not aliens, the ends of the world is where we are commanded to go, but how are we to go into the ends of the world to change it, when you don’t love the person who lives on the same street? How can I go to the ends of the earth and change the world if I am not willing to change my attitude towards that somebody who is a little different from me? If Christ could die for everyone, we can love everyone too. Because what binds us all together is that love we saw on the Cross, and it is a love that unites. And if anybody does the opposite of it, they do not share that same love and thus disregard the love shown on that cross.

Sincerely,

A Broken Christian

P.S. The letter doesn’t end here, it goes on, as the fight does!
