Dear World,
“This is our time on the history line of God. This is it. What will we do with the one deep exhale of God on this earth? For we are but a vapour and we have to make it count. We’re on. Direct us, Lord, and get us on our feet.”
Every day we are faced with the truth of our failures. We may even get up straight from quiet time and fall into sin. One minute we are walking with the Lord and the next minute we can sin. We might then despair, feel like God is really upset and disappointed with us and so we give up, and live like a Christian atheist, as one author put it, as though Jesus never died and rose again for our sins. And then we wait until the next quiet time or if we have to serve at church or if we are at church to turn back to Him. I often wonder why are our feet so slow to turn back to Him? Is it guilt?
Be encouraged today with the fact that God wants to collide His grace and love with your failures at every moment of every day. It is a lifestyle of this “collision” that the Christian life is all about. It is that moment where we see the depth of our sin, which collides with the depth of His love and the steps we make toward Him that I want to explore today. We as a human race, really screwed up. We forgot him, we turned our backs on Him, we used Him for our material benefits, we go to Him only when we need something.
People do not drift toward Holiness. Apart from grace-driven effort, people do not gravitate toward godliness, prayer, obedience to Scripture, faith, and delight in the Lord. We drift toward compromise and call it tolerance; we drift toward disobedience and call it freedom; we drift toward superstition and call it faith. We cherish the indiscipline of lost self-control and call it relaxation; we slouch toward prayerlessness and delude ourselves into thinking we have escaped legalism; we slide toward godlessness and convince ourselves we have been liberated. We create our own excuses and ignore Him.
We live in sin, and our sinful life is a reminder that we need a savior. If we let the weight of our sin pile on us, we wouldn’t be able to move. Repentance is necessary but often, we let the voice of guilt and shame win and when they win, we stay stuck in unworthiness instead of letting Jesus heal, redeem and renew.
No matter where we are right now, so far away from the Father that a return seems impossible or we keep living in ignorance of His greatness, doesn’t matter where you are, you can always come back. There is nothing that you can do that will make Him love you any lesser. He loves us like there’s only one of us. And upon knowing this, there’s two ways we can go, either keep living the life we are living like nothing matters or we can choose to come back to God with a broken and repentant heart. Today, choose to return to Him people. Forgiveness is His, the asking is ours!
God’s never done with you, never be done with Him!
Sincerely,
A Broken Christian
P.S. The letter ends here, for now, but the fight goes on!
