A Place of Promise

“The future is as bright as the promises of God”

Yeah sure, who doesn’t like a good promise? It’s good to the ears, calming to the soul and beautiful to the heart. And it is always easier to be at the receiving end of it. And if that’s the case, we stand at the most beautiful place of all, at the receiving end of God’s promises.

Here is an eternal truth. Life cannot be divided into compartments in some which God is involved and in others of which he is not involved. The fact is that God does not need to be invited into certain departments of life and kept out of others. He is everywhere, all through life and in every activity of life. He hears not only the words that are spoken in his name; he hears all words; and there cannot be any such thing as a form of words which evades bringing God into any transaction. We will regard all promises as sacred if we remember that all promises are made in the presence of God.

When we look back over every struggle, heartache, disappointment, failure, and moment of fear, we recognize that God has been with us through it all. And we know that He will continue to be with us. There is no promise in Scripture that our lives will be free from pain or that everything will always go smoothly. But there is the promise that He is always with us, even in the darkest storms of our lives. We can find some peace in the middle of the hardest experiences because He is there in the middle of the storm. We can’t imagine living our lives without the truth of that promise. And it’s the place you want to be.

God’s promises are not simply random good intentions. Rather, God’s promises together point to and delineate a divine plan for history – a plan to rescue a people for the praise of His glory, and to affect that rescue, that salvation, through a judgment that God Himself would bear on our behalf. In other words, history is not cyclical, a “mere repetition” of archetypal patterns. Rather, history is heading somewhere. It’s linear. It’s developing and progressing toward an end that God has already prepared. The place you are in right now, is where the promises is taking you to. The journey that you embark upon changes the perspective you have of who He is and more importantly the idea of who He is. Life can get tough, unpredictable, and right out scary but it’s always calmer in his promise. Because there, he talks we don’t have to, he does, we don’t have to, he sees, we don’t have to and what’s better than leaving all of that to the one who knows how to do it much better than we ever can.

A place of Promise is where He is!
