A line of the Famous American rapper Machine Gun Kelly’s hit single ‘Go for Broke’ goes like this ‘I started with a dollar and a dream’.
When we look around, we see successful people and think to ourselves, Wow! ‘How did they get here?’. The answer is simple, they had a dream and a dollar. It wasn’t the dollar that brought them there, it was that dream. The dollar sure helped them along the way, but it is the dream that made them who they are.
Dream, it is something that has changed the world, something that has laid the foundations of everything we see around, the reason we have heroes, the reason we have anything and everything around us.
From the dream of Martin Luther King Jr. that changed the lives of an entire race of people to the one that Charles Babbage had which paved the way for the gadget, you hold in your hand.
From the dream that made Mohammed Ali a legend to the one that Alexander the Great had which made him conquer the world. It was all at first a dream, a small and simple dream.
How wonderful it is, that even a small flickering idea that we call a dream can contain the potential to change humanity.
How often do you dream or aspire? What do you dream of? Why do people struggle to act upon their dreams? Is it fear of failure, insecurity in their abilities or chalk it up to wishful thinking that holds them back? I have never heard of anyone dreaming of failure or aspiring to be unsuccessful. Failure does not play any part in dreaming. It is the dreamer that instil failure, not the dream. I have read of many very successful dreamers that failed numerous times before they experienced success. The difference is that failure was not going to end their dreams, only motivated them to dream bigger. Dreams are where we want to end up. They are the paths to achieve our dream. Let me ask you a question about the dreams you have. Would you rather pursue them and fail or never try at all? For me, I’d rather try and fail. I don’t want to leave things wondering what might have been. Don’t see failure or success as the only end goals when it comes to pursuing your dreams. Think of life as a big journey where what happens along the way is just as important as reaching the end goal. The future is not a gift, but an achievement. Dreams are necessary. Without dreams, there will be no ambition to chase. There will be no goal to reach. We will all be nothing without dreams. Most people have dreams. Big ones or small ones. Many people dream, but only some wake up and work for it.
It is essential to work hard for your dreams. Without this hard work, a dream will only remain a desire in our minds and will never be achieved. Where would the world be if they had chosen to turn away from a dream? What would have become of them if they chose to listen to all the reasons “why not,” instead of “why not me? “Keep your dreams in front of you. Always remember two things in life, If not you, Who? If not now, When?
Never forget, if you can dream it, you can do it!
