“I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought, and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.”
Thank You, is one of the most amazing words we can hear from a person’s mouth. It brings satisfaction and happiness to our lives. It’s a word which should be said more often but not said as much as needed. When we look around, and see all the happiness around us, as we count our blessings and think about all the good things, we can’t help but wonder, it’s all a gift and since it’s a gift, our attitude must be one that of gratitude.
The world we live in is stressful and troubled, it can seem difficult for us to find something to be thankful for. When we read the news, or look around, We hear of crime, terrorism, tragedies, and disasters. We rush about at a hectic pace day after day, trying to keep up with the demands of modern life. And the list of problems could go on and on. But none of that should stop us from being grateful. When darkness grows around us, we cannot afford to become neglectful in this spiritual practice. Instead, we need to renew our commitment to thankfulness. In fact, being thankful can be therapeutic. It can bring healing to a troubled heart. On the other hand, a lack of thankfulness can lead to depression as we focus on negative things. Take some time today and list out all the things you’re thankful for. That’s going to take a lot of time. That’s how blessed we are.
The prayer of Martin must be ours too. “Did I mention how much I appreciate all the things you created? For the colour of orange autumn leaves against the deep blue sky? For the smell of the sidewalk after a thunderstorm on a hot summer afternoon? For the way that the frost makes crazy patterns on windows in the winter? For the amazing smell of daffodils in the springtime? While I’m at it, I’m also grateful for the beach (that’s a pretty great thing you created), the mountains (also great) and sunsets (really great). And hamburgers, too.
Most of all, God, I’m grateful for your presence in my life. You’re everywhere, and if I remember to pay attention I can see you invitation to meet you in every moment of the day. I know that it is you who turn my mind to thoughts of gratitude. And when I’m tempted to focus only on the problems and worries and fears, I know that I’m being led away from you.
Now, I’m not always as thankful as I should be, but today I am. Today I will try to be grateful all day, since you are generous all day to me, like you are every day”
Today, go ahead and thank Him for something!
