Have you ever had one of those moments where you messed up? You made a mistake? You failed and you know that nobody is going to forgive you and give you another chance? We all have been there and gone through that. And we may have dealt with it differently, some may have blamed themselves for failing, some may have blamed others for the actions, but some way of the other we have dealt with it. And it’s a bad feeling and phase to go through.
Let’s get to know the God I Know. And yes, he’s a God of second chances. He loves you and he loves you so much that he’s willing to forgive you when you mess up and he’s gracious to give you a second chance. But never take it for granted. The mercy of God is so abounding that he does not care about who you are or what you’ve done. All he cared for is whether you have a heart that’s willing to approach him and let him do the work in you. What would one’s life amount to without the mercy of God? Mercy, even on the human level, has saved many lives from being tragically wasted because of some sin, error, failure, or folly. None are so godlike as those who can exercise the virtue of mercy. In Shakespeare’s Merchant Of Venice old Shylock wants revenge through justice, but Portia disguised as a young lawyer pays her tribute to mercy and says, “It is an attribute of God Himself; and earthly power doth then show likest God’s when mercy seasons justice.”
And when we have made mistakes and when we come to the Lord, we are not coming to somebody who is sitting with a whip in his hand to punish us for every false move. The Bible teaches that His essential nature and character is mercy. Mercy holds back from us what we really deserve. And that is something beautiful wonderful it is to know that it involves His person. That is what His character is like. There is never a moment when you come to the Lord that He stops being merciful. But you should never take his merciful character for granted. But enjoy it, bask in the beauty of it, tell others about it and keep living it. Because no matter who you are, no matter what you’ve done, the God I Know is a God of second chances
