Pinky Promise

“Keep every promises you make and only make promises you can keep”

We all make promises, don’t we? From the time we are children to all the way to being adults, we all make promises along the way. It’s easy to make a promise, but it’s difficult to keep them. There is not a single person here who hasn’t made a promise.

“Yes Mom, I’ll clean the room” to “Yes, Sir, I’ll submit the report by this week”, we have all made promises. We’ve kept some promise, broke some and completely forgot about some. But whatever the result is we still continue to make commitments to people.

Merriam Webster Dictionary defines a promise as ‘a declaration that one will do or refrain from doing something specified’

When we make a promise to a person, we say that we value their relationship and we show them that we care, we tell them that you are important and dear to me that I will do this for you. I promise to do this, because I care about you. Now imagine what’s the message you send to them when you don’t keep the promise. Won’t it mean the complete opposite? Broken promises leads to broken relationships. We hurt them and we also tell ourselves that we don’t value our own words.

Always believe in ‘under-promise, over-deliver’. Do not promise too much, but make sure you always deliver more than you promised. A promise seeks trust and bonds people together. Sometimes we tend to make promises very easily, without even giving it a thought. And then we later regret making that promise. And when you fail to fulfil the promise, you end up hurting the other person. A healthy relationship is built on the strong foundation of trust and going to an extra mile to keep the promises strengthens the relationship with each day passing by. And broken promises are an enemy of those promises. Trust is like an invisible thread that binds everyone together. Now, if there is no trust, relationships fall apart.

“Some people still make promises and keep those they make. When they do, they help make life around them more stably human”

Promises and trust are all linked to each other, and the breaking of one leads to the breaking of the other, and also the keeping of one makes the other also pleasant and this makes the world a better place. A broken trust leads to a broken heart and we all know that broken hearts don’t heal very easily.

So when we live life, we come across situations that require us to make a promise. Make promises you can keep and always do your best to fulfil that promise. A broken promise leads to a broken trust and that leads to a broken heart. Don’t go breaking hearts, live life keeping your promises and making the world a better place. Keep every promise, even if it is a pinky promise.

Because, a promise made is a debt unpaid.
