Meaning (Where Are You Christmas, S1E7)

“We do not find the meaning of life by ourselves alone – we find it with one another”

Take a trip to the Himalayas, take a trip to Bhutan, and you will find thousands of people on a journey. A journey to find themselves, to find the meaning of life. To give sense and perspective to this crazy journey we call life. This is a question, the world has always tried to answer. This question has kept many philosophers and thinkers employed, but most of them left their life without finding a meaning for it. How do you translate life? Can man ever find meaning? This is a question that’ll take a lifetime to answer, so let’s fast forward to the end of it and look at one aspect of it.

The Upanishads tell that, ‘You are what your deep driving desire is; as your deep driving desire is, so is your will; as your will is so is your destiny’. Though the Upanishads don’t completely give us an answer, it gives insight into a very compelling truth. You are what your deep desire is, and this season of relaxation and cheer, take some time and introspect. What is your deepest desire? What drives you? Is it that baby on the manger? Is it that savior who was born to save mankind? In our moments of weakness as we cry out, seeking for a meaning in life, nobody might understand, but there is somebody who’ll understand your cry, and he is the one you sing about in the songs. When we fall down, when things don’t go our way, we tend to take a halt and question everything around us, we tend to doubt everything, even the fundamental ideologies we hold dear. At this point, when you hit rock bottom, remember that if your deepest desire is Jesus, he will guide you through it all. He will be by your side, making sure you cross this storm with ease and peace.

There are millions of people out there, who live their life searching for the meaning of life, yet not knowing that the person who gives meaning to their lives is always near them, waiting for them to ask Him the question, the only one with the answer. And this season, the world celebrates it, everybody, all around the world, across nations, religion, culture and creed, people celebrate the birth of a Jesus. The world sadly just enjoy it as a celebration, not knowing that it was the birth of the one that would give meaning to their life. The one who holds the answer to their burning questions. The one they seek in the mountains and the hills is lying in that manger so that one day he could hang on the tree, which would ultimately bring an end to this never ending quest mankind has embarked on. Yet, millions every year, celebrate this season not knowing the reason. This Christmas season, let’s look to the one who gives meaning to your lives, the one who has the answers to all the questions the world can’t answer and truths that no mountains or hills hold! As Max Lucado once said, ‘Philosophers can debate the meaning of life, but you need a Lord who can declare the meaning of life’.

The sleeping child Mary held, gave meaning to mankind!
