Where Are You, Christmas? (S1E1)

Ho Ho Ho! It’s the most wonderful time of the year, the season the whole world awaits. Cakes, Pies, Dinner, Santa Claus, Michael Bublé, these are some of the reasons the world celebrates this joyous season. But is this the only reason? At this point, if you are somebody who is wondering, What? There are more reasons? Then you should definitely read this through, for the others, ‘Anyways you’ve read this much, might as well finish it and be a good sport will ya?’ In this series, we will look at a few of the very simple, most common yet, most often neglected aspects of the most celebrated religious festival in the world.

The first aspect we will look into is Cognizant. Cognizant simply means knowledge or awareness. But the Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines it as knowledgeable of something, especially through personal experience. And let’s go with Mr. Webster for today. Across all religion and beliefs, everybody knows that Christmas is the birthday of Jesus, who is the religious leader of the largest religion in the world. But sadly, most of the times, our understanding is limited to that. In this series, let’s get to know a little more.

A world drowning in sin was not a sight that God Almighty could idly sit and watch, so he decided that something should be done about it. So, God had the perfect plan, which was to send his only Son, to die for the sins of the world. Christmas is the first stage of the story of the World’s greatest sacrifice, and it is one of the opening scenes of the redemption of the world. The darling of heaven left behind the glory of the Father’s presence and came down to this earth to be a sacrifice so that everyone could be saved and have eternal life. Now, That’s the Reason for the Season! Jesus was the baby of Christmas, and when He grew into manhood, He stretched his arms on the cross, saying, “I love you this much! I love you so much that I’m dying for you” For thousands of years mankind has been under the captivity of sin. They were under the wrath of God. Yet God continued to promise, through His prophets, the coming of the One who would take on Himself all the anger of God against sin; the One who could give us His righteousness in exchange for our transgressions.

The gift of God was the greatest of all gifts! It was The Redeemer! The Saviour! The Deliverer!  Without this gift, we had no hope. We were doomed to die in our sin, forever separated from God. But now, we can call him Father! Because, The Son chose to be born to a virgin, grew up and let himself be crushed under the wrath of God, so we can have forgiveness and have a home! And that’s the reason we say, ‘Feliz Navidad!’

So, the next time you hum along to the carols and see the cute little children wear the outfits of the shepherds, remember it is all the beginning of The Greatest Love Story Ever Told!

This season let us put Christ in Christmas!
