Where Are You Christmas? (S6 E1)

“Christmas is not just a time for festivity and merry-making. It is more than that. It is a time for the contemplation of eternal things. The Christmas spirit is a spirit of giving and forgiving.”

Once again it’s the most wonderful time of the year and just like that everything is red and white again. And somehow everyone is a little more cheerful, everyone is just happy. Maybe it’s the joy that comes with the end of another year, maybe its the joy that comes with the celebration of the biggest birthday bash of the year or maybe its simply just the festivities. Whatever your reason to be joyful, it is at the end of the day good to be joyful because we really need it. But again like every great thing, this season also comes with a lot of promises, it comes with moment of merry but always almost at the expense of the true meaning it carries.

We always try to limit it to just what meets the eye and what pop culture tells us. Sure, it is also about a happy ending where the grumpy and rude person smiles and saves the day, sure Netflix has been trying to sell us the fantasy that everything ends well during Christmas, not to be the grinch but Christmas unfortunately is just that for most of us. But the most beautiful thing about Christmas is something else, you don’t need a scholar or a scientist to find it for you, you read the name again and it says right in the name, what this is all about.

Christmas is about Christ and nothing else, everything else is like the ornament your 5 year old niece makes for the tree, sure it looks nice but that’s not the centre of attention. The centrepiece is Jesus and it’s always been him. Companies and Pop culture have been trying to steal Jesus’ thunder on his own birthday for quite a while now but it has and it is and it always will be with him, it belongs to him and nobody and nothing else, but sadly many of his own children have forgotten it. Blinded by the glitz and the showmanship of the season we’ve forgotten who its all about. We’ve forgotten that its everything to do about Him, His love, His heart, His desire, His wishes and that’s what the season is all about. The season is about the Son. We have forgotten the son but the father is reminding us once again. This season, focus on the son, focus on what he wants and what you can do, not just out of a Pinterest list but out of your heart for Him.
