We have almost at the doors of Christmas and as we’ve almost come to the end of history, we have seen different understandings of Christmas and what it meant to the world and it’s inhabitants. The 20th Century saw a great advancement in different fields. People started giving back to the society and started changing the world.
We live in a world that’s selfish, and very much self-centred. We may not always be selfish on purpose, but in our busy lives we tend to be selfish and ignorant about what others in this world are going through. The world we live in is not exactly a bed of roses for everyone, for some it’s just thorns and thistles. Sometimes life is a bumpy road, they may need comfort or somebody to help them out along the way.
Everyone is born to do something great. We are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning, it is also very important that we be a helping hand to a somebody in need. To put a smile on somebody’s face, to be a reason that someone out there is happy.
Here’s an important life lesson for this season of Joy, no matter how tough you think your life is there’s always someone who has to face challenges that are even tougher than yours. And it goes in many different directions. Not only basic things like making money, getting food, or having a place to rest at night, but also the possibility of taking part in some entrepreneurial projects or getting proper education. You may think that you’ve got it worst, but there’s somebody out there struggling even more. And when that thought strikes your mind is when you start looking at life in a different perspective. That’s when you realise the importance of giving, to stretch out a hand of help to somebody in need. To make sure that the life of at least one person is better because of you. Now, that is something the world really needs.
Happiness begins from the moment you do something for others. Those who consistently help others, are happy, they come across obstacles in their lives, but they always know something will turn up, and it is all going to end well, because they were once the reason for someone else turning out fine. From the scientific point of view also it is great, research indicates that they are less stressed, and experience improved mental health.
This season, let’s take the effort to hell someone in need, to stretch out a helping hand to those who desperately need it. To be an angel to somebody in need and that’s the spirit of Christmas. It maybe the littlest of things, but this season, what will you do to make a difference? What will you do to make a change?
For the 20th century Christians, Christmas meant Giving!
