“Now, what’s this? But I thought the series was over? I was glad I didn’t have to sit through one more post” These might be the thoughts running through your minds. Turns out, it’s not over! Just like Jesus surprised the soldiers who buried him by coming back, there are some more things left to say. Like every great story, this story also doesn’t end when you think it’s over. Just when you think, “He’s risen! Now What?” The story doesn’t end there. Where the story of Love ended, the story of Life began. After rising from the grave Jesus did not just say goodbye and leave. Before ascending into His father, he appeared before his disciples and gave them a commission, a great commission. What is the Great Commission? The Great Commission is spelled out by Jesus and the gospels mention it. The Lord told the disciples to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. Though it is spoken physically to the 12 disciples, it is meant for everyone who is a disciple. The word disciple simply means; one who follows another. All of God’s people are His disciples. It takes more than 12 people to change the world. Which means, you my friend is a disciple who carry a great commission.
“The Great Commission is not an option to be considered; it is a command to be obeyed” The command given by the saviour before he ascended. And since it is command, there is no room for excuse or procrastination. When Jesus told us this, he expects us to do it. The world is messed up, it is broken and it needs somebody to heal the wounds, somebody to mend the broken hearts and the only person who can do that has told us to point the world to Him! And how successful are we at doing that? Is our lives spent on showing the world the one person that can help them? It is difficult to do, when life is comfortable and everything is going well. But, you know where change happens? Outside your comfort zone. World is changed when we decide to break out of our comfort zones and high places.
I have but one candle of life to burn, and I would rather burn it out in a land filled with darkness than in a land flooded with light” There is a world filled with darkness and what are we doing with our lives in the light? The master wants us to go out into the world and be a light that shines and show the world the way to be saved, and are we still holding on to our good life and comforts? He is Risen from the dead! And now what? We go out and save others from death!
Let his last command be our first concern!
